A soldier visits the grave of Invincible Asia (from Part II) and finds she is alive after all. He informs her that numerous Asia the Invincible impostors, including her former lover, Snow, are causing havoc in her name. Soon the real Asia is on a campaign to reclaim control of the world, with a Japanese submarine and a Spanish warship at her disposal.

This is the third part of the 'Swordsman' trilogy and unfortunately doesn't quite stand up to it's predecessors in terms of sheer entertainment. Brigette Lin reprises her role as Asia the Invincible and delivers a brilliant over the top performance which perfectly matches the tone of the film. She again takes the role of the white haired witch that she did in 'The Bride With White Hair' and seems to be parodying her original acting performance. It is actually hard to tell if the whole film is a parody, some moments are so ludicrous. The film is infinitely inventive but unfortunately is a complete mess in the plot department. This goes to show that while Ching Siu Tung and Raymond Lee know how to cast and direct insane action sequences they are a bit lacking in the storytelling department. Hong Kong cinema is famous for it's over-the-top action and this film is as mad as anything else to come out of the colony. One aspect that is always mentioned is the crazy subtitle translations. Some of the mistakes are laugh and loud funny and add fuel to the theory that the film is a genre parody. The cinematography and scale of the production is as one would expect from a Tsui Hark production - uniformly excellent.

If you are a fan of Ching Siu Tung's style the action sequences here are as good as anything else he has done before. Also Brigette Lin delivers a very knowing performance and adds credibility to the scenes she's in. Joey Wong is made to look less attractive than usual and her character is fun but in the end a bit unnecessary. A harmless bit of escapist fun with some magnificent sets and production design (check out the Spanish galleons). Yu Rong Kwong though, is as annoying as usual in his part as the leading man.
